Shakhtersk coal port adds extra 2.2 km to conveyor network

The offshore terminal of the Eastern Mining Company’s Shakhtersk coal port, has increased the length of conveyor lines to 3.1 km. According to the results of construction and installation works, another 2.2 km were added to the network which was built earlier. Now, the expanded system of conveyor belts directly connects six storage areas in the port territory with berthing shiploaders. This solution allows ensuring the continuity of coal supply and avoiding downtime in loading ships.
"The need for additional routing arose in connection with the almost threefold increase in the port's warehouse areas," explains Yuri Gvozdikov, Executive Director of the Shakhtyorsk Coal Port, Yuri Gvozdikov.
"In combination with other measures to develop capacity, this works to achieve the planned annual shipping figures 8 million t.”
Among the initiatives for further development of the port infrastructure, the possibility of constructing another branch of a conveyor with a length of up to 400 m is also being considered.
According to advanced environmental practices, the new conveyor system is equipped with a solution that prevents the occurrence of coal dust, as well as metal detectors. In the places of overflows, water is sprayed from the special nozzles on the entire conveyor belt, and joint zones with loading machines are equipped with powerful magnetic installations.
The marine terminal of the Eastern Mining Company’s Shakhtersk coal port is the largest coal terminal in the region. To dynamically develop terminal capacity, VGK invests in the renovation of port infrastructure, equipment and in the development of the raid fleet. In 2017, the volume of coal shipment here amounted to 4.6 million t. Its plans to ship 8 million t in 2018. By the end of May 2018, a monthly record was set at the terminal: 1 million t.
