Greek shipowner Alassia Newships Management and the Japanese trading house Itochu Corp. have partnered for a handysize newbuilding contract at Nakanishi Shipbuilding, Japan.
Yangzhou Nakanishi Shipbuilding in Jiangsu Province, China, will take on the 40 000 DWT construction project, with delivery expected in 2026.
Earlier in 2024 Itochu made a move to purchase a pair of ultramax bulkers at Chinese builder New Dayang and has also partnered with Taiwanese shipowner U-Ming Marine Transport to jointly own and operate a series of ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers.
Alassia Newships is listed with eight owned bulkers, mostly built in Japan, and three under construction, which are scheduled for delivery in the later part of 2024 and 2025 from Oshima, Japan. A price is yet to have been revealed for the fourth newbuild, which, according to the company’s website, has been designed by Japan’s Mitsui.
