Danish dry bulk shipping company Norden has bolstered its fleet with a pair of newcastlemaxes from Eastern Pacific Shipping.
The ship owner and operator has spent approximately US$146 million to purchase the 2021-built scrubbed-fitted Trust Qingdao and Trust Shanghai from Eastern Pacific Shipping.
This will be the company’s second move on bulkers in this segment this year after picking up another 2021 Shanghai Waigaoqiao-built pair from Sinokor in March.
Demand for newcastlemaxes has been robust in 2024, with 22 sales reported year to date, nearly doubling from the same period in 2023.
Since it entered the cape segment in March Norden have bought five new ships, one of which has since been sold on at a profit and four 180 000 DWT newbuilds booked with Namura Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, Japan.
