Star Bulk Carriers announces first annual sustainability report

Star Bulk Carriers, a global shipping company focussed on the transportation of dry bulk cargoes, has announced the publication of its first annual sustainability report for the year 2018, developed in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative Standards (Core Option).

The scope of the report covers all aspects of the company’s sustainable opera-tions including corporate governance, operational excellence, and the ways in which it measures and manages its impact on the environment, its people and society. The report describes the company’s strategy and priorities, provides ex-tensive information about the company’s activities towards sustainable develop-ment, and communicates the actions taken for accomplishing the company’s goals.

Highlighting and reporting on the material issues as these have been identified by the company’s stakeholders including employees, investors, customers, banks and suppliers, the report demonstrates the company’s commitment to becoming the global leader in sustainable dry bulk shipping.

Commenting on the publication of the report, Petros Pappas, Star Bulk CEO, emphasised: “Monitoring, reporting and strengthening our environmental, social and governance activities is at the top of our strategic agenda. With this report we aim to enhance the transparency of our sustainability performance, contribute to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and present our action plan for continuous improvement.”
