As the February half term school holidays begin, the UK’s biggest rail freight company has warned children about the dangers of trespassing on railway sites.

Doncaster-based DB Cargo UK, which has depots and terminals across the UK, said every year it invested significant time and resources in making its sites as safe as possible and warned children not be tempted to try and breach its security.

At the beginning of every school holidays, the company’s 2200 strong workforce is encouraged to remain vigilant, keep sites secure and immediately report any incidents of trespass to the British Transport Police.

The company’s Head of Safety and Operations, David Ethell, said: “Our sites and depots support the UK’s busy railway network. School children, or any member of the public for that matter, put themselves in serious danger if they trespass on railway sites. They are potentially dangerous places for people who are unfamiliar with them and have no safety training.”
