Port of Teignmouth tour with local MP

During the visit, the local MP was given a presentation by the Port Manager, Alex Chinchen on how port facilities and safety procedures have evolved throughout the years as well as an overview of the latest successes.

Morris said: “I was delighted today to take a tour of ABP’s Port of Teignmouth and meet with their Divisional Port Manager, Alex Chinchen. The Port of Teignmouth is celebrating its highest tonnage levels in a decade and it was fascinating to see the variety of commodities both imported and exported through the site.

“With the ongoing challenge of looking at alternatives to road transport, the Port’s continued success and significant increase in tonnage passing through to customers and local businesses is a fantastic accomplishment. I look forward to hearing about ABP’s future achievements in keeping Britain trading throughout 2018.”

As part of its ongoing success story, ABP’s Port of Teignmouth reported a record-breaking 2017, as it handled its highest tonnage of cargo since 2008. Made up of more than 450 000 t of animal feed, minerals and aggregates, the milestone was achieved thanks to ABP’s programme of continuous investment in port infrastructure and equipment.

To demonstrate the latest investments in infrastructure and equipment, the presentation was followed by a guided tour around the port’s facilities. During this tour, the Port Manger showcased ABP’s recently acquired Mantsinen crane, which represents an investment of £850 000. The positive impact of the Teignmouth Harbour Commissions’ dredge on the ports capacity was also discussed.

Chinchen said: “We were delighted to welcome Anne Marie Morris MP to our port and hope that the visit successfully brought to life our vision of how we can support the local economy and keep Britain trading in future.

“Together with the Port of Plymouth, ABP’s ports in the southwest contribute over £75 million to the region’s economy every year and support more than 1113 local jobs.”
