Two new mobile cranes, manufactured by Konecranes, have been deployed in Swede Harbour in Malmö.

These new cranes have a lifting capacity of up to 120 t.

Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) will to take over ownership and operation of the cranes as of 29 September.

“We’re delighted to be able to deploy the new cranes now. Mobile cranes offer a significant increase in flexibility, as they are not track-based and the lifting capacity is much higher than before. This means that in future we’ll be offering even better, more efficient handling in the bulk port,” said Brian Kristensen, COO, Liquid, Dry Bulk & Properties at Copenhagen Malmö Port.

The cranes have been shipped from the factory in Düsseldorf and the first crane arrived in mid-June, when it was installed with the aid of machines. When the second crane arrived in Malmö one month later, the first crane was used to help with installation work. The cranes are 30.80 metres high with an outreach of 46 metres.

“I would also like to thank all involved both employees and suppliers, because the process has worked very well and the timetable has kept up to date,” concluded Brian Kristensen.

The mobile cranes replace the old 20 t cranes, which are now being dismantled at the port – a task that is expected to be completed in the first week of October.
