RUSAL awards milestone aluminium plant contract to SCHADE

When United Company RUSAL Plc commissions its new plant in 2022, around 400 km east of Krasnoyarsk in Taishet, Russia, SCHADE technology will be a part of it.

The Russian aluminium producer placed its first order with SCHADE Lagertechnik GmbH at the end of 2019, for a wagon tippler and two semi-portal reclaimers. This latest contract is an important milestone for SCHADE in the development of its growth in metallurgy, which is rapidly becoming established as one of its new core focus industries.

The RUSAL Group operates assets on five continents, and has almost 60 000 employees. It is building a new plant in Taishet to produce anodes for aluminium manufacture. Unprocessed petroleum coke, also referred to as green coke, is a refinery by-product, which would normally be discarded, but it is used in this process as a raw material. RUSAL has, for the first time, chosen SCHADE solutions for the stockpiling and reclaiming of this petroleum coke.

Two different SCHADE systems were selected for the same project, firstly a C-Frame Wagon Tippler with a handling capacity of 20 wagons per hour, and secondly longitudinal storage with two semi-portal reclaimers, which is unusual in Russia, where full-portal reclaimers are generally preferred. The identical reclaimers each have a capacity of 180 tph and a rail span of 25 m. The reclaimer package also includes five belt conveyors with lengths from 50 to 250 m, as well as a tripper car. The equipment will be supplied at the beginning of 2022.

A significant factor in winning the order was being able to demonstrate a SCHADE reference project in petroleum coke. A visit to the plant in Salonit Anhovo in Slovenia, which has been in operation since 2001, convinced the representatives of RUSAL of the merits of SCHADE technology, and contributed positively to the decision making in placing the order.
