Clarksons is delighted to announce the appointment of Christian Skovhoj as Managing Director of Clarksons Platou Japan K.K. In this role he will be working to further expand and diversify the business within the region.

Skovhoj has been in the shipping industry for over 20 years and moves from Oldendorff where he spent the last five years significantly growing their period business in the Japanese market and expanding their S&P and Newbuilding businesses. He started his shipping career with AP Moller-Maersk in Copenhagen as a trainee on the MISE programme, after which he moved to Maersk Broker, first in Japan as an S&P broker and then New York initiating S&P activity in the region. In 2006 he became Head of S&P for the NYSE listed tanker owner/operator, OSG, with whom he spent six years before relocating back to Japan.

Clarksons Tokyo office was established in late 2016 with six employees and has grown in that short time to fifteen, covering the all dry cargo markets and the container market. Skovhoj will be working closely with Robert Chie, a well-known and respected figurehead in the Japanese market.

Skovhoj comments: "Clarksons has a long established connection with the Japanese market, yet the office is still young so this is a truly exciting time to move into this role as well as a fantastic opportunity to work with an ambitious and talented team, both in terms of the Tokyo office and the wider company."
