SSY Futures expands into the agricultural commodities business

SSY, one of the world’s largest independent shipbrokers has announced that its commodities arm, SSY Futures, is further expanding its reach in the commodities sector with the launch of a dedicated agricultural derivatives sales and execution desk.
Initially focusing on grains, oil seeds and soft commodity derivatives, the new business aims to compliment SSY Futures’ existing portfolio in the freight and commodities space while leveraging on SSY’s global infrastructure and regulatory licenses in addition to its experience in dry bulk.
Operating out of its London office, the new desk will be headed up by Andrew Rechten, a commodities veteran who has previously held senior roles at Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan, Macquarie and SEB amongst others. Agricultural specialists, Francois Churland and Owen Scrimgeour will also join the team.
