Andrea Vitturi, Bedeschi, discusses the important role of storage, stackers, and reclaimers in optimising material handling in the dry bulk sector.

Stockyard success

In the realm of industrial operations, efficient material handling is crucial for optimising workflow and productivity. Stockyards serve as pivotal hubs for the storage and movement of bulk materials; for Bedeschi, it means the ability to offer bespoke solutions, from the design, the engineering, the production, and the installation of a variety of turn-key material handling systems. These machines play a vital role in managing the flow of materials, ensuring they are stored safely and retrieved efficiently. This article will explore the various types of stockyard equipment designed to enhance operational efficiency and operations management along with the company’s latest projects.

Longitudinal storage

The 230 000 bpd Duqm Refinery is a crucial project for the development of Duqm City and the Omani economy as a whole, aiming to become one of the most significant ports in the Middle East in the Duqm area, leveraging its strategic location on the Arabian Sea.

Bedeschi is nearing completion of the pet coke and sulfur handling project commissioned by Saipem for the Duqm Refinery in Oman. The system will include two parallel lines (one for sulfur and one for pet coke) each comprehensive of: truck unloading onto surface feeders, stackers, mobile hoppers for product reclaiming, a complete conveyor system from storage areas to the wharf, where a single loading system for both materials with mobile link conveyors leads to a radial shuttle-type shiploader. The stacking capacity for both pet coke and sulfur are 1500 tph.

Stacker and reclaimer in the Dominican Republic

Thanks to the long-standing collaboration with the customer, who has relied on Bedeschi for years for the performance and reliability of our products, several projects have been completed at their plant in the Dominican Republic over the past year to upgrade their production lines.

One of the significant upgrades was the delivery of a new crushing unit with a 300 tph capacity. This unit was specifically designed to handle clay. Its installation at the plant will significantly enhance the production process, leading to increased efficiency and productivity.

In addition, two Bedeschi bridge reclaimers, BEL P 400/25, with a 400 tph capacity, have been installed inside the plant to handle limestone.

The reclaimers are installed inside the plant’s second production line. With this new line, DOMICEM will be able to self-produce all the necessary components for cement production and, through increased production of clinker, could make the Dominican domestic cement market self-sufficient.

In addition, the existing reclaimer was further upgraded enhancing the productivity of the machine, whose capacity was increased from 200 tph to 360 tph. Given the level of cooperation with the customer, further improvements to the plant are being considered.

This type of machine operates continuously, and it is known for its high efficiency and homogenising capability, while ensuring a steady supply to the downstream process and minimising downtime. It is often used in applications requiring the management of large-scale bulk material stockpiles, providing a reliable way to maintain flow in material handling systems. To confirm the efficiency of this machine, Bedeschi recently received several orders for this type of reclaimer: two in the Far East for sticky and wet chalk and four in Nigeria, two for limestone and two for clay.
