Dutch electrical systems and component company for the maritime sector, Alewijnse Marine, has successfully delivered the complete electrical installation for the new cargo vessel Arklow Venus (YN 728). According to the company, this is the eighth ship in a series of ten 5150 DWT traders that Alewijnse has fitted out at Royal Bodewes Shipyard to Bureau Veritas class standards. They are all owned by Arklow Shipping and are being operated and managed by Arklow Shipping Netherlands. The ninth vessel in the series is to be completed in April this year and the final vessel (yard number 730) is due for completion by the middle of 2018.

Eco-traders

These 87 m ‘eco-traders’ are being built to a proprietary design by Royal Bodewes. Each is capable of burning both heavy fuel oil and gas oil, the latter being necessary for the North and Baltic Seas emission control areas, and has a top speed of 12 knots. They will sail under the Dutch flag.

Optimising production processes

Alewijnse is providing the complete electrical installation and integration for the Arklow vessel series. “We are supplying and installing almost all the electrical equipment on board, including the switchboards, bow thrusters, shaft generators and bridge consoles”, Alewijnse Project Manager, Bertran Smit, explained.

“In addition, we are working closely with Bodewes to optimise the production processes for this series."

Bodewes

Other recent projects completed by Alewijnse Marine done on this basis include the cement carriers Furuvik and Cymbidium, a number of different Bodewes coasters and the NB 803 Coralius; a unique LNG flex tanker that was nominated for the Next Generation Ship Award at Norshipping 2015.

Smit is enthusiastic about the series order for Bodewes and Arklow. He said: "We are proud to have been selected to carry out such a comprehensive and complex project for Bodewes.”

“Our two companies have built a strong relationship over many years and for this extensive project we have again provided a high-quality service with a professional, experienced and dedicated team on site."
