Oldendorff are to further expand their fleet of Babycapes by buying four 115 000 DWT bulk carriers from companies controlled by Interorient Navigation Co Ltd, Cyprus as well as taking two sister vessels on period charter from them.

The ships were previously operated in a pool with Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S. All six vessels (listed below) were built at New Times Shipbuilding in the Jiangsu Province of China between 2010 and 2013:

  • MV “Orient Sun” was built in 2013 (to be renamed (tbrn) “Pia Oldendorff”).
  • MV “Orient Strength” was built in 2012 (tbrn “Peter Oldendorff”).
  • MV “Orient Crusader” was built in 2010 (tbrn “Penelope Oldendorff”).
  • MV “Orient Champion” was built in 2010 (tbrn “Patricia Oldendorff”).
  • MV “Orient Centaur” was built in 2010 (on period T/C).
  • MV “Orient Cavalier” was built in 2010 (on period T/C).

The 2013 built “Orient Sun” was already taken over at Zhoushan on 20 April 2018.

These deals are to boost Oldendorff's Babycape fleet to 40 ships, including 14 owned units. The company are also currently in the process of increasing the deadweight capacity of our 8 x 118 500 DWT “R” class Babycapes to around 122 000 DWT.

Within the Capesize sector, which Oldendorff Carriers entered in 2006, they are today the leading operator in two of its size classes, namely the Newcastlemaxes (200 - 215 000 DWT) and the Babycapes (100 - 125 000 DWT).
