The UK’s 3rd largest ports Group Forth Ports has appointed Ryan Porteous as new Harbour Master for the Ports of Dundee, Methil and Kirkcaldy in Scotland.

In his role as Harbour Master, Porteous, originally from Perth, will be based at the Port of Dundee where he will be responsible for all marine operations on the River Tay.

Before his appointment, Porteous was a Trainee Pilot/Assistant Harbour Master at the Port of Montrose, and previously, Perth Harbour. He has been working in the industry for five years and held similar roles at the Port of Southampton.

While working in his new role, Porteous will continue to work towards a BSc in Sustainable Marine Operations through distance learning at Plymouth University.

Chief Harbour Master of Forth Ports Scottish operations, Alan McPherson, said: “We would like to offer a warm welcome to Ryan Porteous who is our new Harbour Master for The Ports of Dundee, Methil and Kirkcaldy. Ryan has been working in ports across the east coast of Scotland for the last few years and we are looking forward to seeing him develop his skills at a truly exciting time for Forth Ports.”

Porteous remarked: “I am really pleased to have been appointed as Harbour Master with Forth Ports. It’s a great time to be working in Dundee’s marine sector and to be joining the team in the midst of a £10million investment in the Port of Dundee which will see the port continue as a world class facility.”
