New port facility at Port of Huelva in Andalusia

Impala Terminals held an inauguration ceremony for its new logistics port facility for the storage and blending of minerals and metal concentrates located at the port of Huelva in Andalusia, on Spain’s southern coast.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Employment, Enterprise and Commerce of the Junta de Andalucía, José Sánchez Maldonado; the President of the State’s Ports, Jose Llorca; the President of the Port Authority of Huelva, Javier Barrero; the CEO of Impala Terminals, Nicolas Konialidis; and the Director of Impala Terminals Huelva, Javier Peña.

20% owned by Berge Infraestructuras y Servicios Logisticos SL, and 80% owned by Impala Terminals Group, the new facility is the result of an ambitious construction project that has created a best-in-class facility for the reception, storage, blending and export for minerals and metal concentrates in western Europe, as well as a strategic gateway for Spain’s mining industry.

Over €60 million has been invested by Impala Terminals in the facility, which has generated more than 125 direct and indirect jobs, is capable of handling over 1 million t of imported and exported products each year and has a static storage capacity of approximately 240 000 t. An additional 70 000 m2 of adjacent land is available for future expansion.

The President of the Port Authority of Huelva stressed in his speech that "this is a project for the future, which will mean employment and economic growth in the province and highlights the strength of this great mining port in southern Europe."

The President of the State’s Ports highlighted that "a port has a great significance in the economy of a country and the inauguration of this new logistics facility exemplifies the role we want it to have for society, with a well-oiled logistics."

The Councillor for Employment, Enterprise and Commerce of the Government of Andalusia said that these new facilities "add a further link to the value chain of mining in Huelva, placing the province in the epicentre of the sector in Andalusia, Spain and Europe, as they become a strategic hub for ore concentrates.”

Operations at Impala Terminals Huelva are based on three core concepts that are part of the business philosophy of the group: safety, operational and environmental excellence and process reliability. Activities are conducted under strict compliance and surpass international safety standards with the objective of guaranteeing a sustainable and sustained business that reaches the highest levels of excellence. Likewise, its activity will also benefit the local industry in the area, mainly for those involved in logistics support services.
