The East Mining Company Ltd has announced that coal shipments at its offshore terminal in in Shakhtersk, Russia, exceeded 1 million t in May, despite inclement weather conditions for much of the month.
The production record has been attributed to an investment programme for engineering re-equipment of the port. Since the beginning of the year two new stackers have operated in Shakhtersk. The stackers are shiploaders with a capacity of 1000 t/h, which provide services to the fleet of vessels modernised last year with a bearing capacity being equal to 500 t.
Furthermore, in 2017 the port clamshell grabs were replaced (the volume of grasping jaws being equal to 14 m3).
The company intends to replenish production capacities with the backfitted reloader Emco-1, which will bolster daily transhipment figures to 52 000 - 53 000 t.
Yuriy Gvozdikov, Executive Director of the Coal Sea Port Shakhtersk LLC, said: "Obviously, the new equipment contributes to enhancement of efficiency of our activities. But, the co-workers strive to improve themselves. We are driven by the result. We have already blueprinted to beat the current record in June".
The Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk LLC is the largest coal terminal in the region. In 2017 the quantity of coal shipments amounted to 4.6 million t. The East Mining Company’s target for coal shipments this year is 8 million t.
