2017: A record-breaking year for Port of Teignmouth

This ten-year tonnage-handling milestone of more than 450 000 t made up of clay, animal feed and aggregates, was achieved thanks to ABP’s programme of continuous investment in port infrastructure and equipment.

Recently acquired state-of-the-art equipment has included a new Mantsinen crane, representing an £850,000, which has brought ABP’s overall investment in Teignmouth up to more than a million pounds in 2017.  

Other highlights in 2017, included a historic 4000 t shipment of clay in October, which was transported from Devon to Spain aboard the MV Pex. The shipment was made possible by the dredging campaign by Teignmouth Harbour Commission, which has enabled the port to welcome vessels carrying more than 4000 tonnes of cargo for the first time in Teignmouth’s history.

Alex Chinchen, ABP Divisional Port Manager of Southwest Coast, said: “We are proud that our hard work and commitment to improving port facilities and services have allowed us to achieve a record-breaking year in supporting our customers and local businesses.”

“We have not only seen the most significant increase in tonnage passing through our port in the last decade, we have also shown that there is cause to feel optimism about the future, as we are ready for another strong year of keeping Britain trading in 2018,” Chinchen added.
