Essar Ports Vizag Terminal handles its largest dry bulk vessel

Located within one of the 13 designated ‘major ports’ of India, Essar Ports Vizag Terminal Ltd (EVTL), Andhra Pradesh, is the largest iron ore handling complex in India. On 20th April 2022, the M.V. Star Eleni, a bulk carrier built in 2018, sailing under the flag of Liberia, was successfully berthed at EVTL.

This was the largest bulk carrier that the terminal has handled to date with following particulars:

  • DWT: 207 555.
  • Length over all: 299.88 m.
  • Beam: 50 m.

The terminal created another milestone by successfully loading a record 165 000t of iron ore fines on M.V. Star Eleni vessel.

Essar Ports Vizag terminal’s fully mechanised eco-friendly infrastructure delivers a performance which can be benchmarked with the best across the globe, while also enabling lower logistics’ cost for customers. The terminal is strategically located in the Bay of Bengal in close proximity to iron-ore mines located in Chhattisgarh, southern Odisha and Jharkhand. The all-weather deep draft facility has the wherewithal to serve the rapidly growing markets of Southeast Asia including China, Japan and Korea, in addition to coastal movement for the steel industry within India.
