Dry Bulk,
McLanahan Australia has just completed the shipment of a medium triple roll crusher for a New Zealand coal company. The customer is currently processing lignite coal at a rate of 470 tph. With a maximum feed of 300 mm, the customer’s goal is to get to a final product size of 40 mm.
“The equipment recommended by McLanahan was a medium triple roll crusher”, says Brad Anstess.
“The customer wanted to keep their capital expense to a minimum and that’s where the triple roll crusher excels – as a low capital cost option for mining operations”.
The triple roll crusher is designed to reduce ROM feeds to market size in only one pass. It is predominantly used for harder coals and feeds that contain a medium/hard shale. The triple roll crusher is not suitable for crushing large quantities of rock and/or hard refuse.
The customer’s machine
The triple roll crusher was designed and assembled in Australia, using a combination of local and internationally sourced components.
The primary roll
• 600 mm in diameter.• 60 rpm.
The secondary rolls
• 450 mm in diameter.• 200 rpm.
The McLanahan triple roll crusher contains self-aligning, anti-friction roller bearings that support the primary and secondary roll shafts. Weighing approximately 13.7 t, and having a fabricated steel base frame and hopper, the machine is fitted with removable roll covers for easy maintenance and inspection of the rolls.
The triple roll crusher underwent Factory Acceptance Testing in June, with the test running for a total of 4 hours. The components that were tested include the motor, monitoring the bearing temperatures, and ensuring that the belt and geared drives were setup correctly.
The history of the roll crusher
McLanahan Corporation was the inventor of the single roll crusher in 1894. Its inventor, Samuel Calvin McLanahan, developed the simplified design. These units have excellent reliability and require minimal maintenance. Roll crushers are designed with built-in tramp relief – this allows for the passing of uncrushable material.
McLanahan offers belt-driven roll crushers in four designs: single roll, double roll, triple roll and quad roll crusher.
McLanahan roll crushers are also designed for heavy-duty applications, suitable for conditions found in countries, such as Indonesia.
