Pilbara Ports mark an overall increase in cargo throughput for December 2023

Pilbara Ports delivered a total monthly throughput of 66.5 million t for December 2023. While this throughput was a 1% decrease compared to December 2022, overall, individual ports fared much better.
The Port of Port Hedland achieved a monthly throughput of 50.4 million t, of which 49.9 million t was iron ore exports. This was a 1% increase to total throughput compared to December 2022. Imports through the Port of Port Hedland totalled 220 000 t, an increase of 34% compared to December 2022.
The Port of Dampier delivered a total throughput of 15.1 million t, a 6% decrease from December 2022. Imports through the Port of Dampier totalled 106 000 t, an increase of 19% from December 2022.
Several factors are cited to have influenced the fluctuation of throughput, including changes in market conditions, port maintenance operations and proponent needs.
Total throughput across all ports since 1 July 2023 is 374.4 million t.
