Dry Bulk,
The port of Antwerp handled over 161 million t of freight in the first nine months of 2016, up 3.3% on the same period last year.
The container volume in the first three quarters came to more than 7.5 million TEU. This represents growth of 4% and further expands Antwerp’s market share for containers in the Hamburg-Le Havre range.
Meanwhile the volume of dry bulk continues to decline: after nine months, the figure stood at just over 9.2 million t, representing a fall of 11.6% compared with the same period in 2015. More specifically, negative performance was noted for ores (down 16.9% to around 1.4 million t), fertilizers (down 3.7% to around 2.6 million t) and sand and gravel (down 20.1% to around just over 1 million t).
