The Fratelli Fazio Group has ordered a Konecranes Gottwald ESP.9 Mobile Harbour Crane which is the first Generation 6 crane with 200 t of lifting capacity delivered to Italy. The order was placed around a half a year ago and the crane will be delivered to Sicily’s Port of Augusta in 3Q25.
Located on Sicily’s east coast, the Port of Augusta is a key entry point into the EU’s TEN-T core network of strategic transport corridors. It has a deep harbour accommodating vessels of all sizes.
Fratelli Fazio Group has been operating earlier-generation Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour cranes at the port. This new 200 t capacity crane – the heaviest lifter in Konecranes’ mobile harbour crane portfolio – will increase handling capacity of heavy general cargo, including project loads and wind power generators.
The crane is equipped with external power supply to be electrified once the local infrastructure is set up. Two onboard diesel generator sets allow for unplugged operation and redundancy. The crane comes with Konecranes TRUCONNECT® for remote monitoring, giving the Fratelli Fazio Group real-time data to support operations and predictive maintenance. Compliance with Italy’s standards for sustainability and digitalisation makes the order eligible for government incentives.
“This will be our first Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbour crane. It’s a very important addition to our existing fleet. The investment strengthens our long-standing relationship with Konecranes, giving us the capability to handle even the most challenging cargo with confidence,” said Gabriele Fazio, Procurement Manager, Fratelli Fazio Group.
“We’re very happy that the Fratelli Fazio Group has decided to go ahead with this order, which builds on our long and collaborative relationship with the Augusta terminal. The deal also further confirms the strength of Konecranes across the broader Mediterranean region,” says Gino Gherri, Regional Sales Manager, Konecranes Port Solutions.
This contract is part of?Ecolifting, Konecranes’ vision to increase its handprint – meaning the beneficial environmental impact that can be achieved with our product and service portfolio – while reducing customers’ carbon footprints. From eco-optimising diesel drives, to hybridisation and fully-electrified fleets, we will continue to do more with less.
