The construction of the Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, the country’s first dry bulk terminal, is progressing well and on track to meet its scheduled completion date of 2Q17, according to a company announcement.
China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd. (CHEC) has completed the major civil works. Work on punch list items, interface adjustments, and testing and commissioning is now underway.
On the equipment side, all project equipment has been delivered to site and is currently being installed, tested and commissioned. Equipment has been supplied by Chinese manufacturers, Northern Heavy Industries, Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry, along with CHEC.
Equipment supply includes the conveyor belt system, shiploading and unloading systems and the power house.
"The current progress activities carried on by CHEC at the project and their pace are satisfactory along-with the timeline for equipment supply, delivery and commissioning and it is expected that the project would be completed within its stipulated deadlines,” the company said.
The US$285 million project is to handle a range of dry bulk commodities, including cement and clinker export, and coal exports, the ports CEO told a conference in Cape Town in February.
