US bulker owner Pangaea Logistics Solutions has expanded its fleet with two secondhand supramax drybulk carriers.

The US-based company has struck a deal to acquire a pair of 2016-built 58 000 DWT vessels for US$56.6 million.

The vessels have not been named, but Norwegian bulker owner Belships has announced the sale of two supramaxes of the same age and price.

Pangaea had a fleet of 24 owned bulkers supplemented with an average of 17 chartered-in vessels in the 1Q24.

“This year, we will continue to refresh and expand our owned fleet with newer, more efficient vessels,” said Chief Executive Officer Mark Filanowski.

In addition to its bulker fleet, Pangaea operates terminals and performs stevedoring services in several ports in North America. The company has also been investing in the expansion of its logistics business in the Port of Tampa, Florida, US.
