Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) has completed procedures for the fourth tender of imported wheat for this year, which is 505 000 t of wheat from the origins of the European Union, the Black Sea, Australia, North and South America.
His Excellency Eng. Ahmad A. Al-Fares, Governor of SAGO, said in a statement that contracting this shipment comes within the framework of meeting the milling companies’ demand for wheat and maintaining the strategic reserve at safe levels. This batch of imported wheat will be supplied during October 2021 and distributed to two shipments for Jeddah Islamic Port with the amount of 125 000 t, four shipments for Yanbu Commercial Port with the amount of 250 000 t and two shipment for King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam with the amount of 130 000 t.
H.E. stated that 22 qualified global companies specialised in grains trade were invited to the tender; 15 of them competed to supply the amount to be imported and the offers which had the lowest rates of shipments were selected.
With the completion of the fourth tender for this year, SAGO has contracted to import approximately 1.7 million t of wheat since the beginning of the year. Noting that SAGO continues to receive – through eight of its plants – quantities of local wheat from farmers for the current local wheat season, which will last until the end of October. The total quantities of local wheat received to date is 378 000 t which will further maintain the strategic re-serve.
