Trans Cargo Terminal SRL, a subsidiary of Moldovan agro-business Trans-Oil Group, has completed an expansion of its grain export terminal at Giurgiulesti International Free Port in Moldova. The terminal now has a capacity of 1000 tph of grain, loading onto vessels of up 8000, as well as river barges.
“Due to the substantial increase of our capacity, we will be able to attract new clients and, at the same time, enable our group of companies and our existing clients to increase the transipment volumes,” said Vaja Jhashi, President of Trans-Oil Group.
According to Jhashi, the expansion project included the addition of a berth, the construction of a storage silo with 12 000 t capacity, and new deep-water jetty and the installation of high-capacity loading equipment. The project cost US$6 million.
The expanded facility now has total grain storage capacity of 70 000 t, increase transshipment capacity of 0.8 milion tpy – accounting for about 75% of Moldova’s annual grain exports.
Moldovan grain exported through Giurgiulesti International Free Port is delivered into the Mediterranean markets and to Asia, which has taken 60 000 t of Moldovan wheat so far this year.
