The Queensland Minerals and Energy Academy (QMEA) has launched its first Pit to Port workshop in Gladstone.
Students converged on CQ University to understand the challenges of moving resources across Queensland, to ports and onto customers around the world.
QRC Skills Director Katrina-Lee Jones said there are many challenges involved in transporting large amounts of resources.
“These workshops will teach the students the various steps needed to deliver the commodities to Europe, Asia, South America and North America,” Jones said. ”Students will be given details relating to management of the wharf, ships, tides and tugs and how to manage an order with a fleet of trucks.”
Industry mentors from QMEA sponsor APLNG were available to provide insights to the students. APLNG Communities Manager Rob Gibb said the LNG industry continues to grow and will be an important part of the state’s export future.
“This is a perfect opportunity for students to gain an understanding of the complexities involved in exporting our product worldwide and to be involved in some real-world problem solving,” Gibb said.
Three core areas will be taught, fleet management, workplace health and safety and supply chain management.
